Director, BYU MBA Career Managment
Sam Dunn joins the BYU Marriott School after a successful career as a senior Finance officer with Walmart. During 28 years with that company, he served in various leadership roles including: CFO of Sam’s Club and Walmart.com, Divisional Controller for Walmart US, and the top Administrative Officer in both Japan and Mexico. At the time of his retirement, he was Senior Vice President leading strategy and planning for Walmart Global Leverage Services. Sam has also served as Senior Advisor with Boston Mountain Money Management, an investment advisory firm located in Rogers, Arkansas.
Sam is a member of several business and professional associations, including: Financial Executives International and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He sits on the National Advisory Council of the BYU Marriott School of Business. He is active in church and community. His non-profit Board positions have included: Area President for the Boy Scouts of America in Arkansas/Oklahoma, Board President of Open Avenues adult development center in Rogers Arkansas, and Finance Chair for the American School Foundation in Mexico City.
Sam is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Global Management Accountant and an Investment Advisor Representative (Series 65). He has been recognized with the Alumni Achievement Award by the BYU Marriott School, the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope Awards by the Boy Scouts of America, and the Sam M. Walton Award of Excellence by Walmart.
Sam served a full-time church mission in Montevideo, Uruguay. He has subsequently served as a stake presidency counselor, a bishop, and a Scoutmaster. He and his wife Mary have four married children, and make their home in Draper, Utah. When he is not assisting students and meeting with hiring firms, you can find Sam with his family, or hiking, running and biking on the trails and roads in Utah.
Assistant Director, MBA
Shawna Gygi joined the Marriott School as Assistant Director of MBA Career Strategy at the Marriott School of Brigham Young University in 1996. Her work and that of others, has been instrumental in positioning the BYU Marriott School MBA as a great place to find talent. Shawna is focused on relationships of trust with company executives, corporate recruiters, faculty, administration, students & alumni. These connections have resulted in a vast network which, when appropriately leveraged, has positively impacted the Marriott School MBA placement record.
Prior to BYU, Shawna worked for several years in industry acquiring skills in marketing, sales, training, recruiting, business development and joint venture relations. Add this to the almost 20 years with the Marriott School, this substantive experience is utilized to prepare students, then broker relationships between corporate partners and BYU MBAs.
Assistant Director, MBA
Rick serves as the Assistant Director of MBA Career Management, working with the Finance track MBA students. Prior to coming to BYU in 2012, Rick worked for 20 years in Finance at Intel Corporation.
At Intel, Rick held several finance and management positions in R&D, Manufacturing, Division P&L, Corporate HR and Legal, and Strategy, running Intel’s $6B Growth Portfolio.
Prior to Intel, Rick worked as a product engineer for Westinghouse Electric Company. Rick is a two-time graduate of BYU – he received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1988, and his MBA in 1992.
Rick served his mission in Germany, and is married with five sons. He is an avid sports fan – a huge baseball, college football and basketball fan. Go Cougs, Giants, Warriors, and 49ers!
Director, Global Supply Chain Management
Eric has 30 years of experience in all 9 Global Supply Chain specialties with 2 Fortune 500 firms & 5 other companies – public & private multinationals, a UT start-up & 2 years consulting in S. Japan. MBA in Consumer & Industrial Marketing from BYU.
Director of HR, Strategic, and Entrepreneurial Management
Bill has a humanities degree (English and Chinese) from BYU, and a MBA from MIT Sloan School. He has worked in the following industries, primarily in Strategy and Product roles:
- consulting (Bain)
- financial services (Providian, Liberty Mutual)
- tech (Ancestry, AltaVista, Compaq, OneGreatFamily, Cricut)
These companies range in size from small (15 employees) to medium (300 employees) to large (more than 3,000 employees), and have been public, private, and private equity-backed firms. He has also started and runs his own side businesses, and has been an advisor to several start-ups.
After first working in Boston, Bill has lived in Texas (Dallas and Houston), Louisville, and the Bay Area before moving to Utah a few years ago.
